Sakuya's past is a mystery, even to her. She'd been raised on the streets of the capital city, and all the days before one blur together for her. Whether the skills she possessed were natural or taught, not even she could say.

When she was 13 or so (as nearly as anyone could tell), she had broken into the castle to steal some food, desperate in her hunger. She'd been caught, but only barely. Instead of throwing her in the dungeon, though, the head of the king's guard recognized her skills. He'd put her to use, as the handmaiden of the young princess... and her bodyguard.

The two have become close over the years. Very close. Sakuya is exceptionally loyal to her princess, and maybe a little bit more.

She knocks on the doors to the princess' chambers. "Your highness? I've brought you some tea."

Tear was dozing lightly on her bed but quickly woke up when she hears a knock on the door. It takes her a moment to register Sakuya's voice, but when she does, she heads to the door and opens it.

"Thank you, Sakuya," she says with a smile. Perhaps some would find it odd how close the princess and handmaiden were, but Tear didn't care. There was no one more important to her than Sakuya.

Sakuya bows politely as the door is opened, and steps inside, setting the tray of tea and cup and cookies on the elegant mahogany table she sometimes takes her meals at.

"You've been working terribly hard lately, your highness," Sakuya says simply. There have been some diplomatic negotiations going on with a neighboring kingdom, and the king expects his princess to be in them. "You should rest and relax, while you have the chance."
